South Hampton Roads has about 10,000 – 12,000 Jews living in the area with a rich history of Jewish life dating back nearly 200 years. For today’s community there is a tapestry of Jewish Resources available. Use the links and information below to find out more about what is available in our Jewish community.

Kosher Food

There is a variety of kosher meat and packaged goods available at several local venues. The widest variety of fresh meat and a plethora of Israeli and American kosher specialty items are available at Harris Teeter Supermarket located at 1320 Colonial Ave in Norfolk. There is also a monthly, full service delivery from Shlomo’s Butcher in Baltimore.

Simon Family JCC

The Jewish Federation of Tidewater and its Organizations

The Jewish Federation of Tidewater is a vibrant source of community organization and enrichment. Check out the Federation and it’s affiliate organizations including the Holocaust Commission and the Community Relations Council by visiting their website at JewishVA.org.

The Hebrew Academy of Tidewater (HAT) & Strelitz Early Childhood Center

HAT is a dual-curriculum community day school that serves children from Kindergarten through fifth grade. Strelitz ECC has care for infants through Pre-K, pre-school and full care, all in a warm, engaging learning environment. These are wonderful programs with a stellar reputation. Community Mikveh
